I am a horrible test- taker. Leaving high school I had impressive grades and class rank but my SAT and ACT scores were in the toilet; so, I did not qualify for any scholarships.
Now, I decided I wanted to go to Howard when I was like 12. Nothing had changed by the time I finished high school. When I came to Howard in 2008, it cost about $24, 000/ year, now its more like $28,000. My parents were, to put it mildly, concerned. I was concerned too, but not enough to stop or alter my plans.
I spent many a day searching for a way to pay for school. I spent many a night crying when those searches ended in vain. I kept telling my parents if they could get me through the first year, I would figure out the rest. Once I got to Howard, I didn't go to any fancy parties, no dinners, no nothing. Every dime I had went toward paying for school. My closet and drawers were empty. None of that mattered though. I was here.
I spent every Sunday in chapel. I read that pink Bible they give you at the first Chapel service during Freshmen Week. My only prayer was that somehow, some way, I could stay to go to class another semester. Then the answer came, in mock trial.
The Mock Trial Team at Howard University is award winning and they provide scholarships to their most valuable members. I tried out in September of my freshmen year. I knew if I made the team and I worked hard enough to impress the Director, then Attorney Tianna Sousa- Johnson, I would be able to afford to continue to attend Howard. So that's exactly what I did.
I was at every practice, on time, ready to work. I volunteered to do as much as I could. I stayed in Attorney Johnson's office. It paid off. For the rest of my time at Howard I faithfully served the mock trial team and because of it I was able to afford to finish my degree at Howard.
To top it, I love every minute. My teammates are some of my best friends. We play just as hard as we work and we're actually quite good. Currently, the Howard University Mock Trial Team is 9th in the Nation.

It just showed me that Jeremiah 29: 13 is true:
"You will seek me and I will be found be you when you seek me with all your heart."
Go girl!! Talk about it!This is definitely inspiring.
